Welcome to the City of Dickinson Texas
Letter From The Mayor
Greetings from this wonderful City on the Bayou! The City of Dickinson is one of the most picturesque areas of Galveston County, featuring beautiful homes surrounded by lovely green foliage and tall pine trees. Located midway between Houston and Galveston, our city offers a superior locale with all the amenities nearby – 24-hour dining, service stations, and grocery stores to name a few. Dickinson is adjacent to some of the best fishing and recreational areas on the Gulf Coast. The Dickinson Independent School District provides excellent education to children in Dickinson and the surrounding area.

Recent development include a new 40-room Days Inn & Suites, Kroger Signature Store, and Dixie’s Classic Diner. The redevelopment of the Dickinson Plaza Shopping Center has added Palais Royal, Partner’s Rental, and Hollywood Video to that center’s existing tenants that include some wonderful antique stores. Additionally, 2003 saw the expansion of Dickinson’s largest industry, Penreco, and significant renovations and additions to a number of other commercial properties. The city is now preparing for an unprecedented level of residential growth. Almost 1,000 new single-family homes are slated for development in the immediate future.

The City of Dickinson is working hard to provide the much-needed infrastructure and staff to serve new residents and businesses. Deats Road, a major east-west thoroughfare is under construction. A number of other streets have been deemed essential to the expansion of our local economy and are being rebuilt by the Dickinson Economic Development Corporation.

Dickinson boasts one of the state’s treasures with the Festival of Lights held each December at Paul Hopkins Park. Each year thousands of people from across Houston and around the world walk through the festival’s beautiful holiday display.

A number of community organizations are working hard to improve the quality of life for citizens of Dickinson. Included among those is the Dickinson Historical Society who, along with working to preserve our local heritage, is currently working on the $1 million renovation of the Dickinson and League City railroad depots.

Dickinson is a wonderful place to be, filled with wonderful people, organizations and ideas. The city, along with civic groups and individuals are working to ensure that this community will be a treasure now and for years to come.

Sincerely,

Julie Masters
